Event planning – is this the perfect employment opportunity for you?

Imagine the following scenario:

The tables are covered with the most beautiful white satin covers. There is an intricate centerpiece made from purple candles and silver color-sprayed roses. There is a live band playing soothing music, people are dancing and generally having a good time. The bride and groom look ecstatically happy. The wedding has been a huge success, and behind this success is an overworked and exhausted, but tremendously satisfied events planner.

Most people are blissfully unaware of the intensive planning involved in planning any special event. There are individuals however, that thrive under the pressure of planning events. They create employment for themselves as well as others by marketing their event planning skills.

If you are considering employment in the event planning niche, make sure to read on.

Most people involved in event planning possess at least some of the following qualities:

  • They can think creatively
  • Good at doing research
  • Good people skills (social skills)
  • Good at selling their skills (business savvy)
  • Must be flexible – when things don't work out exactly as planned, must be able to improvise
  • Perfect organizational skills
  • Can work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Energetic
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Trust worthy

You can market your event planning skills in various ways, one of the best marketing tools is word of mouth. When you've done a few big events successfully, people will start to talk about your services, and before you know it you'll have more work than you can handle.

Another way to get exposure is by placing ads in local newspapers. If budget allows you can advertise your event planning business over the local radio station.

Some examples of possible events you can be contracted to plan are:

  • Weddings
  • Conferences
  • Birthdays
  • School functions
  • Social events

Remember, if employment in the event planning arena sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, do some research, talk to other event planners and follow your heart!
