Laptops Are Now Dominating Desktop PCs

    From the discovery of desktop computers to upgrading it to a portable one, I can’t imagine how desktop computer transform into a book-size and folding computers. 

    In the late 1980s’, William Moggridge a Briton worked at Grid Systems Corporation, the Grid Compass was one fifth the weight of any model equivalent in performance and was used by NASA on the space shuttle program in the early 1980’s. A 340K byte bubble memory lap-top computer with die-cast magnesium case and folding electroluminescent graphics display screen.

    The first true laptop computer, which featured a flat display screen, was introduced in 1982. However, during that year laptops were very expensive and IBM incompatibility limited its attractiveness in the market and it was used primarily by only the US Military and NASA.

     A laptop compose of a display screen, a keyboard, a pointing device ( a touchpad, also known as a track pad, and/or appointing stick),a hard drive, optical drives, speakers, and often including a battery, into a single small and light unit. The rechargeable battery is charged from an AC adapter and usually stores sufficient energy to run the laptop for two to three hours in its initial state, depending on the configuration and power management of the computer.

    It looks like a large notebook with thicknesses between 0.7 -1.5 inches (18-38 mm) and dimensions ranging from 10x8 inches (27x22 cm, 13” display) to 15x11 inches (39x28 cm, 17” display) and above.

Advantages:

1.    Portability : It can take anywhere
2.    Size and Weight: It is a compact type of computer. It is an integration of all the major part of a desktop computer.
3.    Un-interrupted power supply: It can stay long because of its built in UPS.
4.    Image: It gives you a great integrity when you own a laptop.

Disadvantages:

1.    Technology: It is less efficient compared to a desktop computer because some latest parts have not yet to be made into thinner.
2.    Comfort: Some set ups have a low quality of sounds and you need to connect it to a sub-woofer device.
3.    Upgrading: If you planning to upgrade a computer, you need to buy a desktop computer not a laptop because it very hard to upgrade a laptop and also impractical.

    Based on DisplaySearch research on 2007 about the top 5 laptop sellers, Hp has got the place number one in the world with 17.7 percent. Secondly, Dell has got second place with 17.5 percent of global laptop sales. Acer got the third place with 11.8 percent. After that Toshiba and Lenovo came in fourth and fifth.

    Acer got the greatest growth with sales up 40 percent while Asus recorded growth about 68 percent, then Apple at 63 percent and Sony at 47 percent.
