Mayweather Won but paid 6-digit penalty to Marquez

Mayweather Jr and Marquez had signed a contract on May 2009 that they will fight on 147 pounds limit, with a special clause that in every pound in excess of 144 pounds, will be equal to a certain 6-figure penalty.

At the time of fight, Mayweather come in at 146 pounds, still inside the agreed weight limit of 147 pounds, but Mayweather will be paying the penalty to Marquez.

Mayweather Jr has already retired some years ago, but because the Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao was declared the new reigning pound for pound champion of the world, Mayweather returned to the boxing world to show that he is the "real" pound for pound champion.

So now, Mayweather has won against Marquez. Marquez was also beaten by Pacquiao in their recent dream match early this year. Pacquiao is settled to fight Miguel Cotto this November 2009. Whatever the results, Mayweather can now fight Pacquiao to show which one is the real champion.

My bet is for Pacquiao of course.
